Kilnbridge

Kilnbridge is a ceramics production-management concept that follows work from customer order through forming, firing, inspection and packing.

Kilnbridge product concept in a branded setting

Project overview

Kilnbridge explores the coordination behind a ceramics workshop: keeping customer commitments visible while batches move through several stages of making. The concept connects orders, production, kiln availability and final inspection within a shared workspace. Four detailed views give workshop coordinators and floor teams different levels of information without changing the language used for batches, quantities and status. The portfolio scope includes interface design, production information architecture and an industrial visual identity grounded in the ceramics environment.

The challenge

A ceramics order can span several batches and wait at multiple stages before it is ready to pack. Workshop teams need to understand what is being made, which stage is holding the work and whether inspected quantities meet an order's needs. Separate calendars, paper notes and spreadsheets can make those relationships hard to follow.

  • Order deadlines need to remain visible as batches move between production stages.
  • Shared kiln capacity introduces scheduling dependencies across batches.
  • Inspection outcomes must distinguish approved quantities from pieces awaiting review.
  • Packing teams need a clear handoff from production and quality control.

Our solution

The proposed workspace links an order overview to a production board, firing calendar and inspection view. Batch identifiers provide continuity between stages, while quantities and status labels make handoffs explicit. The calendar focuses on resource availability and load planning; the quality view focuses on recorded outcomes and packing readiness. The interface presents administrative coordination rather than firing instructions.

  • A workshop overview connects order progress with production and packing readiness.
  • A batch board organizes work by stage with visible ownership and due dates.
  • A firing calendar places planned loads against named kiln resources.
  • Inspection records separate approved items from quantities needing review.
  • Twelve navigation destinations organize the wider workshop workflow.

Key features

  • Workshop overview

See open orders, production activity and batches awaiting review together.

  • Customer orders

A proposed order workspace connects requested products, quantities and delivery dates.

  • Batch production

Follow batches through forming, drying, glazing and readiness for firing.

  • Firing calendar

Coordinate kiln availability and scheduled loads through a shared calendar.

  • Material planning

A planned materials view connects supply availability with upcoming production.

  • Glaze library

A proposed catalog keeps finish references and product associations organized.

  • Quality checks

Record inspection outcomes and separate approved pieces from items needing review.

  • Finished inventory

A planned inventory area gives completed stock a clear place in the workflow.

  • Packing readiness

Connect approved quantities to the orders preparing for dispatch.

  • Customer context

A proposed customer directory keeps order history and account details discoverable.

  • Production reporting

A planned reporting space helps teams review throughput and recurring delays.

  • Workspace settings

A dedicated destination for workshop preferences and team configuration.

Technology stack

    The results

The concept defines four connected production views within a twelve-destination workshop navigation. Each image places the interface at the relevant point of work, from forming benches to kiln scheduling and inspection. The next validation step would ask workshop teams to trace a batch, locate scheduling capacity and reconcile approved quantities with packing needs.
