Apiquill

Apiquill brings apiary records into a visual workspace built around the records, decisions and reviews that shape the work.

Apiquill product concept in a branded setting

Project overview

Apiquill is a product design concept for apiary records. Beekeepers need visit notes to stay attached to the correct hive and date as records accumulate. The scope connects four activities: apiary plan, visit notebook, season ledger, equipment store. Each has a dedicated screen, with a spatial apiary board with hive cards and field-note drawer establishing the visual direction. The work includes interface composition, proposed feature architecture and industry-specific showcase imagery.

The challenge

Beekeepers need visit notes to stay attached to the correct hive and date as records accumulate. A useful workspace must preserve the connection between the original reference, the selected record and the discussion around a change. Showing more information alone would not resolve that handoff.

  • Keep hive identifiers and visit dates connected to the selected work.
  • Make equipment references visible at the point where decisions are reviewed.
  • Retain season history and attachment library through the handoff.

Our solution

The design starts with a spatial apiary board with hive cards and field-note drawer. Locate fictional hives on an apiary layout and inspect visit summaries. The remaining views separate exploration, coordination and review into layouts suited to their content. A honey amber, charcoal and cream palette gives the product its own visual identity, while selected-record panels keep details close to the working surface.

  • Locate fictional hives on an apiary layout and inspect visit summaries.
  • Record observational notes with hive photographs and dated attachments.
  • Review administrative visit history and equipment references on a timeline.
  • Browse hive equipment records with location and allocation notes.

Technology stack

    The results

The design establishes four distinct apiary records views and a proposed set of twelve feature areas. The visual system prioritizes the working object and its context rather than repeated metric cards. A next validation would ask a practitioner to move from apiary plan to equipment store, identify the selected record and retrieve the relevant season history. These are design deliverables, not measured business outcomes.
